Annbank to Auchincruive 9 March

Allan, Davie Mc, Gus, Iain, Malcolm, Paul, Rex, Robert

Because of the poor weather forecast and self-isolation, our numbers were down today as we met at Annbank Bowling Club. Heavy rain was expected, but exactly when depended on which forecast you had read, so we wasted no time in getting started. We had had a short discussion about today’s walk, but the suggestion of just taking the shorter route out to the Wallace and Burns monument and the short route back met with no objections, and by doing so we hoped to get it dry. Paul told us about another short way to get to the monument, so we followed him down the hill, but instead of turning left over the burn, we continued straight on. At this point Davie, who had a ‘sair fit’, decided he would not go any further but return to his car (with Isla), and so Allan wished him well (the rest were well ahead even at this stage) and left him to it.

Davie just made it to the bottom of the hill

Paul led us straight on up the track before turning off to the left through a wooden gate, following grass paths into Auchincruive and ultimately passing Oswald Hall before reaching the monument. It was only quarter to eleven, but we took coffee/lunch as this would be our only stop. The return leg was by the usual riverside path, and we were back at the cars at quarter to twelve. We had won a watch with the weather, as it had stayed dry for the entirety. Probably between four and four and a half miles today, but nobody was counting, and no FRT today as we were being cautious.
