The Walk

It was dry, overcast, and there was a snell wee wind, so we were anxious to get started on our weel-kent walk from Prestwick to Troon. The going was good, and the beach was made in no time. Firm sand was sought for the walk into Troon, but we deviated onto the tarmac path as soon as we could for better footing. Much to Derval Davie’s annoyance, Isla preferred our company to his, as she came on to the path with us, as Davie continued on the sand thinking that she would want this option. Davie soon joined us as well. Coffee (and lunch for some) was taken on the benches next to the ice-cream kiosk.
We retraced our steps, as Isla wouldn’t like walking through the town, until we reached the signpost for the Snugglers’ Trail, where we left Davie to walk along the beach whilst the rest went over the golf course and stopped to allow those, who hadn’t taken lunch earlier, to have their pieces.
Davie reached his car at 1 o’clock whilst the rest arrived back at just after twenty past. Three hours and twenty minutes for 8.3 miles. A decent step out!
The Curry
The twelve above plus Alan McQ, Billy, Ian, Jimmy, Peter, and
Ronnie met at the Jewel to celebrate Derval Davie’s 75th birthday (celebrated
on 26th February). As usual, Catriona and her assistant were most
attentive and the food was good. By eight o’clock we had the restaurant to
ourselves (we have that effect on people) and a great night was had. Killie Davie
wished Davie a happy birthday and gave him his pressie of a bottle of malt, and
Davie replied thanking us for the our company over the years and reminiscing by
reading one of Jimmy’s poems describing the bike ride on Bute many years ago.
We later adjourned to Wetherspoon’s where Davie bought the drinks. Thanks,
Davie, and lang may yer bum lum reek!
