A baker’s dozen of Ooters met at the car park at Glenbuck on a bright morning, albeit with a wee edge to the breeze. With no rain forecast we were in good spirits, but before setting off, Jimmy produced his drone (and they can’t touch him for it) and demonstrated its performance. There was a choice of walks with seven choosing to go up through the opencast and then over Hareshaw Hill whilst Alan, Allan, Dougie, Hugh, Johnny and Malcolm decided to do a low-level walk back along the old railway line avoiding any steep downhills for those with dodgy knees and hips.
There was ample opportunity to take in the memorials to the village and its famous footballing sons before we went our separate ways. The six walked back down to the main road before crossing over and following the River Ayr Way towards Muirkirk finding the going mostly easy with only a few saturated parts. After an hour and a half they turned back and were back at the cars by one o’clock.
The others appeared about ten minutes later having completed the hill climb and having done just over five miles compared to the six miles covered by the low-levellers.
Both groups had enjoyed their respective walks in ever-warming conditions and celebrated at the Black Bull in Mauchline for refreshments where we were treated to our usual hospitality. Thanks again, folks!
A satisfying day out!
