The almost continual rain of the last weeks had gone to be replaced by a bright, but windy, day. It was none too warm waiting in the car park so, assuming everyone was present, we set off ten minutes early and followed the beach until the grass path was found. It was straightforward after that with a mixture of beach walking, path walking and pavement walking, taking us past Seamill Hydro and the golf course, until we reached Portencross Castle, where an early lunch was taken, just after eleven.
Returning the same way we had come, the cars were reached about twenty to one and we had covered about seven miles. A comment was made that we had done the walk in record time, and it certainly felt that the outward journey had been a bit of a forced march, but, nonetheless, all enjoyed being out in the fresh air and getting the cobwebs blown away.
Decisions. Decisions. Where to go for FRT? After some debate, we decided on checking firstly if the Lauriston in Ardrosssan was open, so off we went to the hostelry. The saloon bar was closed but we were invited in to the lounge bar where we spent a relaxing hour and a bit, albeit in the gloaming!
It had been good to complete a walk without being soaked and we returned home well satisfied with our day’s outing.
