Arrangements for 1 June

Meet at the Scottish Industrial Railway Centre, Dunaskin at 10 am for proposed walk up Benwhat Hill, taking in the deserted villages of Benwhat, Lethanhill and Burnfoothill. 8.5 miles (...approximately).

Ardrossan to Irvine 18 May

We sat in Asda’a café in Ardrossan waiting for the rain to go off, and we waited. By quarter past ten there were signs of an improvement, so we set off on our familiar route. By the time we reached the prom at South Beach, jackets were being removed as it was turning warm.

Especially for Johnny!

Our preferred path was still blocked for works on the sea wall at Saltcoats so we took the diversion on to the main road before heading towards Sandylands and rejoining the path, having taken the footbridge over the railway. Some of us were down to shirt sleeves by now as it was turning clammy and good progress was made to our piece stop between Stevenston and Kilwinning. Unfortunately, it started to drizzle again so jackets were put on and we got on our way without too much of a delay. Although it drizzled until we got to Irvine Moor, it was bright overhead and remained warm. It was a relief to get the jackets back off as we were getting wetter from the inside than the outside. Wetherspoon’s was reached about three hours and twenty minutes after having left Ardrossan and we partook of FRT and lunch whilst setting the world of education to rights.
It has to be said that Gus and Ian’s walk today was declared null and void as they took the escalators down to Wetherspoon’s from the mall and hence breaking rule five of the rule book i.e.‘no artificial aids’. They will have to re-do this walk on their own, at a time to be decided, if they wish to be included in the official records.
This turned out to be a really good day out, finished off by a very enjoyable and convivial lunch.

 

Arrangements for 25 May - Mayfest.

Meet at Wetherspoons in Kilmarnock (coffee: 9.30) for a 10 am departure for a walk to Johnny's in Irvine, by a route yet to be determined!

Johnny will provide soup and refreshments.

Thanks for an excellent evening last night. I think everyone enjoyed the meal and the craic. The photos are not very good, but is that the fault of the camera or the subjects; I'll let you decide.

Numbers will be greatly reduced next week.  Hardy survivors should meet at ASDA in Ardrossan (9.30 for coffee) for a 10 am departure and walk to Irvine. Lunch at Wetherspoons.

Arrangements for Wed 11th May

Meet  9.00 a.m. for coffee and scones in Dervel Davies' place. At 9.30 a.m. depart for the valley circular walk. We should be finished in plenty of time to travel to Glasgow for the birthday curry.
