With a poor weather forecast meaning that the Lowther Hills walk was postponed, we met at the car park at the old outdoor swimming pool in Prestwick for a trip to Troon. The day was blustery but it was dry as we set off at 9.30. By the time we had reached the Pow Burn bridge, wet weather gear was donned as light rain began to fall. As we walked along the beach the elements were behind us and Troon was reached in one hour ten minutes.

The coffee was bog standard
Here, we took coffee at the benches adjacent to the toilets and considered the options. Although we had encountered some rain, it had not been an issue and with the time still early it was agreed that we continue walking. One proposal was to walk to Irvine, but the one that won the day was to walk back to Prestwick, but along the cycle track.
For those who love to eat brambles, this was a good plan as the track was adorned with bushes with the flavour varying from excellent to 'soor'. The weather was kind to us on this return journey and it was decided to have a lunch stop in the sand dunes, twenty minutes away from the cars.
Raindrops keep falling on my crisps
As the cars were reached just prior to one o’clock, some real rain appeared, and we adjourned to the shelter of the wee sitootery at the nearby ice cream shop in order to get changed.
FRT was taken at Wetherspoon’s (Prestwick Pioneer) where a pleasant hour was spent on a day where we had been really lucky with the weather.
