Glasgow Canal Walk 6 April

Allan, Davie C, Dougie, Hugh, Iain, Ian, Malcolm, Rex

Making sure that no-one else was going to turn up, we left the Counting House just after quarter past ten for our walk along the canal. The weather was forecast to be showery, but it was dry and bright, albeit with a wee wind blowing when we were in exposed areas, and we were to be blessed with these conditions for the duration of the walk. As happened on our last trip here (29 Sep 2021), a section of the path was closed meaning that we had to make a diversion down on to Maryhill Road, but rather than re-joining the canal path as we did the last time, we took a shortcut down Kelvindale Road and joined the Kelvin Walkway there.

 One for the 'Thistle' fans

Walking down beside the Kelvin, we didn’t cross the river but left the path at Belmont Street and from there made our way on to Great Western Road from where we followed the same route as last time to Wetherspoon’s (Hengler’s Circus) in Sauchiehall Street for lunch. The walk had taken about two and a quarter hours for a distance of six and a half miles and we were well ready for our meal and refreshments.

A very sociable day out!

P.S. Sauchiehall Street is a shadow of its former self with most outlets now closed. A great shame!
