Ayr and Pool 13 April

Alan, Alan McQ, Allan, Billy, Davie C, Dougie, Gus, Malcolm, Paul, Rex, Robert

The walks

Alan, Allan, Billy, Dougie, Malcolm, and Robert started from Rex’s, and took in a painting exhibition by modern colourist James Fullarton at Rozelle. From there they walked across Belleisle and then up to the Secret Garden for a coffee. Walking back to Rex’s, they were back at about one o’clock having had a pleasant stroll and just in time to meet the rest of the guys coming back from their walk.

Although the weather for the low-level walk had been fine, the Ooters, who had gone higher, travelled in to mist, restricting their views. They had motored up towards the masts on Brown Carrick and then walked over the hill and down towards the road up from Fisherton before retracing their steps.

The pool

Gus and Paul couldn’t wait for the pool competition and Billy didn’t participate so it left eight, a good number, to fight for the honour of being the champion. Let’s say that the skill factor was variable, but after some keen competition Davie and Robert contested the final with Davie winning out in the end. Well done, Davie, and indeed to all for making it a great afternoon. Many thanks again to Rex for his generous hospitality. This had been Davie’s second victory of the day as, having bought some raffle tickets at Dundonald Castle on Monday, he was presented with first prize, a giant Easter bunny. He was told to make sure he had a lottery ticket for tonight as he was bound to win something.

P.S. For most, this was a five-pie day. Three at the competition and two to take away. A case of having your pie and eating it. Wonderful!

For the record, the previous pool winners, at least those I’ve a record of, and I know there are more, are

13 04 2022  Davie Clunie

04 03 2020  Ian Doolan

14 11 2018  Ian Doolan

14 02 2018  Alan Stewart

14 12 2016  Johnny Matthews

28 10 2015  Davie Clunie

13 11 2013  Davie Clunie

The last photo I have of anyone being presented with the trophy was Johnny.

Your scribe won it (how did that happen?) one year but can’t remember the date and there is no photographic record. If anyone else has further details of previous winners, then please let me know and I can append it to the list.

Robert congratulates Davie

          What's up, Doc?

Proof Allan was a winner
